A mysterious new substance has been discovered on the distant planet Rubicon 3. It was expected that as a source of energy, this substance would greatly improve humanity's technological and communication capabilities. Instead, the substance in question caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming the Burning Star System.
Almost half a century later, the same substance reappears on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and isolated by the disaster. Alien corporations and resistance groups are fighting for control of the substance. Players infiltrate Rubicon as independent mercenaries and find themselves in the midst of a struggle between the corporations and other factions.
