The octopus is a sea creature that is known for its eight long arms, round body, and bulging eyes. Although it inhabits oceans throughout the world, it prefers tropical waters. Some species live close to the surface of the water and inhabit crevices and reefs, while others live on the ocean floor. This sea animal is considered carnivorous and its diet normally consists of shrimps, crabs, clams, fishesm and lobsters. The octopus attacks its prey by dropping down from above and pulling it into its mouth through the suctions in its arms. Meanwhile, octopuses are preyed upon by huge fishes, whales, and seals. It can swim backwards by blasting water through its siphon and can also crawl along the floor of the ocean. When octopuses are threatened, they shoot ink that darkens the surrounding water and confuses the attacker. Furthermore, some have the ability to change colors to brown, green, gray, blue, or pink to blend with its environment or communicate with other octopuses. This animal are classified as solitary animals and live alone in dens underwater that it creates from rocks using its arms.
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, most species of octopus are not categorized as Endangered. However, the Cirroctopus hochbergi is listed as Endangered due to trawling. On the other hand, most are classified as Least Concern or Data Deficient.
