Ban on PFAs in Cookware

Dubai, 1 October 2024 – At Virgin Megastore we do business for good and are committed to customer safety and environmental responsibility. We are proud to announce a decisive step in safeguarding the well-being of our customers. Effective immediately, Virgin Megastore will no longer list or sell cookware containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs), widely known as “forever chemicals,” due to their potential health risks.

Commitment to Health and Safety

This decision reflects Virgin Megastore’s ongoing commitment to offering safe, sustainable, and high-quality products to its customers. PFAs, commonly used in non-stick cookware, have been linked to serious health concerns, including hormone disruption, cancer, and other long-term health effects. As a responsible retailer, Virgin Megastore is taking proactive measures to eliminate these harmful chemicals from its cookware inventory.

Why We’re Making This Change

Our customers’ health and safety are our top priorities. The growing body of scientific evidence highlighting the dangers of PFAs prompted us to reevaluate the products we offer. By banning PFAs in cookware, we are not only protecting our customers and the environment from forever chemicals but also setting a new standard for safety and transparency in the retail industry.

What This Means for Our Customers

Customers can now shop with confidence, knowing that all cookware sold at Virgin Megastore is free from PFAs. We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure that customers have access to safe and effective alternatives, including stainless steel, cast iron, and ceramic-coated cookware. These options provide excellent cooking performance without the health risks associated with PFAs. This move is part of a broader commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility, ensuring that every product on our shelves meets the highest standards for safety and environmental impact.

Looking Forward

Virgin Megastore will continue to work closely with suppliers to source safe and sustainable alternatives to PFAs, further solidifying its position as a leader in responsible retailing. This initiative is just one of many steps Virgin Megastore is taking to reduce harmful chemicals in the products it offers and to promote a healthier future for all
